This is the second DVD in the three-volume series on the dynamic aikido of Shoji Nishio (1927), 8th Dan Shihan Aikikai. It contains a detailed presentation of shomenuchi techniques. Shoji Nishio Sensei is also an advanced practitioner of judo, karate and iaido, elements of which are incorporated into his aikido. Because of his broad education, Nishio's aikido certainly has an extra dimension. In his lessons he regularly shows how a certain attack would be countered in -for example- karate and then shows how that specific principle can be applied in an aikido way. Nishio Sensei especially trains a lot with weapons. His training method largely consists of starting with an unarmed technique, directly followed by the same -or closely related- technique with the ken or jo. His movements are fast, light and spontaneous and his weapons seem to be ready for attack always. The opponent therefore has to be alert all the time, which forces him into a defensive role and many times he cannot do anything but go into the direction Nishio wants him to go. PART 3 Nishio Sensei demonstrates side-escape techniques followed by explanations of shihonage, ikkyo, gokyo, irimi and kotegaeshi. All techniques are demonstrated empty-handed and using the ken amp jo. English voice-over of Japanese explanation provided. PART 4 Second part of the presentation of shomenuchi techniques. Covered are numerous side-entry techniques, including irimi, kotegaeshi and nikyo the furikaburi series covers irimi, kotegaeshi, and sankyo. Finally many applied techniques are demonstrated. All techniques are shown in taijutsu, ken amp jo forms.
