sNo one seemed to be able to do what the legendary karate masters could do. The basics were there, but the knowledge was lacking. It meant that either we, as western martial artists, had been duped, or something was being held back. It is our contention that vital knowledge has been withheld from us, the knowledge of pressure points and their purpose as applied in the arts of kyusho-jitsu (striking pressure points) and tuite or torite (using pressure points for joint manipulation). We also believe that this knowledge is fully contained in the formal exercises (kata) of the martial arts. The irony of this situation is incredible most karate practitioners holding first degree black belts know anywhere from eight to eighteen kata and there are practitioners who can perform them all, yet have no idea what they contain. They have flawless performance, but no comprehension. We feel that western martial artists have trained in the dark long enough. It is time for fluent movement to give way to genuine understanding and comprehension. It is to this purpose that we present this material. It is our hope that having some insight into what we truly possess will motivate all our fellow martial artists to a more sincere and diligent study of the arts we value.'s - George A. Dillman in the foreword. Dillman, a 9th Dan Ryukyu kempo Tomari-te, is chief instructor for Dillman Karate International, an organization of 80 schools worldwide, with an enrollment of nearly 10,000 students. Dillman has studied under five 10th degree black belts from Okinawa and in 1972 he first came into touch with pressure points. It took Dillman 15 years of intense study with many top-masters and hours of medical-anatomical research to finally interpret this ancient Okinawa knowledge. Currently, Dillman travels the world teaching seminars on pressure points and tuite (grappling) hidden within the traditional movements of the old martial arts forms. 1. Karate Ryu Kyudo Kempo 2.
